Jack's Birth Day
Abnormally early Friday morning I awoke. I tossed and turned for an hour or so not able to sleep. My phone pinged with a message from Charley declaring she felt pressure. She was going to take some panadol and have a shower and get back to me if she needed me to start heading up to her, after all it was a one and a half hour drive. I tossed and turned some more before getting dressed and packing my bag deciding I would head up to her Western Syd home from Wollongong. Just as I was leaving I got a call from her that made me think I should have left far earlier, she confirming labour had begun. By the tone of her voice I could clearly hear it was well on the way.
I took to the road and headed up, it was peak hour traffic however it seemed to be flowing fairly smoothly. I was in a hurry and luck seemed to be on my side. As I pulled into her street guided by my gps I noticed an ambulance in the driveway of a home up the end. Shit! I picked up my phone to check the house number and sure enough, it was there for them. I parked the car out the front and with camera in hand ran up to the driveway...
Charley had sent her hubby and Mum off to work that morning expecting hours of labour still to come. Shortly after she had called them both back as it seemed to be progressing fast and little Rosie was in the next room sleeping. Rosie woke and as soon as her hubby Charles got home he started packing her bag and preparing to leave when he was called in by Charley declaring 'There's a Baby!!!' Charley delivered baby Jack on on her knees in the shower. She unloved his nuchal chord and brought him straight up for skin to skin while Charles called the ambulance.
By the time I got there, everything was calm. Charley and Jack were all loaded into the ambo ready for their brief transfer to Napean hospital for their checks and a proud new big sister snuggled her dad while they waved goodbye to their wonder woman.
I'm going to let the photos fill in the rest of our day but I just wanted to say how honoured I feel to be invited into such an intimate space in peoples lives. Thank you so much Charley for trusting in me and I promise I will make it next time hahahaha.
